Robert Bailey Massengill

Robert Bailey Massengill of Johnson City, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2017 at the Holston Valley Medical Center.

He was a native of Watauga and was the son of the late James Robert Massengill and the late Anna B. Boling Massengill. He was a 1956 graduate of Elizabethton High School where he was an outstanding baseball pitcher. He was a retired car salesman having worked at Tennessee Motors. Bailey was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Elizabethton and a former member of the Sinking Creek Baptist Church where he was the pitcher of the softball team.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bobbie Lois Fields Massengill; his son, Tommy Massengill; a sister, Kathy Rasnick and husband, Mike; a niece, Shelly Irwin and husband, Will; two great nieces and one great nephew, Bryanna, Angela and Christian Irwin; his grand-dog, Wally.

The family will receive friends Monday, October 23, 2017 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM in the Calvary Baptist Church with a memorial service to follow at 7:00 PM with Dr. Joe Sorah and Rev. Jacob Guinn officiating. Burial will be at a later date as his wishes were to be cremated.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Calvary Baptist Church, 225 Holly Lane, Elizabethton, TN  37643 in his memory.
