Lewis L. Wilcox, 85, of Johnson City, passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at Life Care Center of Gray. Lewis was born in Johnson City to the late Walter Lee Wilcox and Ruby Sue Saults Wilcox. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester Wilcox and Oscar Wilcox.
Lewis had been employed in mechanics and worked on hydraulic jacks. He was of the Holiness Church belief and enjoyed fishing and going to various churches in the areas of Tennessee and North Carolina, where he played his harmonica.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 42 years, Peggy Hurst Wilcox, of the home; three children, Jesse Lee Wilcox and wife Tonya of Jonesborough, Timothy Allen Barker and wife Shannon of North Carolina, and Michelle Presnell and boyfriend Ross Parks of Johnson City; one sister, Nancy Sue of Pennsylvania; one brother, Willie Wilcox; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Lewis L. Wilcox will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, November 17, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Terry Jones officiating. Music will be under the direction of By Faith Freewill Baptist Church. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 12 until 1 p.m. Friday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow in the family cemetery on Sheets Hollow Road in Johnson City. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
