Karen Anne Grim Stokes

Karen Anne Grim Stokes, 74, was welcomed to her new home on Friday, December 1, 2017 after a brief illness in Lakewood, Colorado. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of Dorothy Curde Grim McLain and the late Ernie Grim.  She was also preceded in death by her step-father: J.A. McLain.

Karen attended Elizabethton High School, graduated from University of Tennessee as a registered nurse. She worked in various medical facilities retiring last year as a Supervisor of Case Management with the McKesson Corporation.  Karen loved cooking, traveling and photography which she turned into an online business www.myoutoftheblue.com to show case her beautiful photos. She was a member of the Broomfield Christian Church, Broomfield, Co.

In addition to her mom, she is survived by a daughter: Kim (Kevin) Obrock, Florisant, Missouri. Two Sons: Kris (Anne) Stokes, Manchaster, California and Keith Stokes, Winchester, Co. Six Grandchildren: Ashley (Nick) Meyer, Anna Obrock, Adam Obrock, Ben Stokes, Grace Stokes and Greg Powell. One Great Granddaughter: Arian Obrock. Also surviving are step-siblings: Roger & Rose Ann McLain, Jeanette McLain and Karen Bayless. Several cousins, aunts, other family members and many friends.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 9, 2017 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Ernie Depew, Minister officiating. Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Judy Reed, Karen Sams and Jamie Wilson. Active Pallbearers will be: Keith Stokes, Ben Stokes, Kevin Obrock, Adam Obrock, Nick Meyer, Doug Smalling & Randy Curde. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 1000 Dept. 142, Memphis, Tn. 38101-990 or Brick Christian Church 815 Watauga Road, Watauga, Tn. 37694.
