Marvin Harris

Marvin Harris, 74, of Piney Flats, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at Johnson City Medical Center.
Mr. Harris was the son of the late Lowell and Mary Ellen Stump Harris and was born in Kingsport, Tenn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Austin Harris.
Mr. Harris was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School in Kingsport. He worked for Williams Circulation, Kingsport Press and Elizabethton Star. During his career he and his family lived in the states of Indiana, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Mississippi, Texas and Florida before settling back in Tennessee.
Mr. Harris was a train enthusiast who had an extensive collection of model trains; he also loved to build them. He loved to dance the jitterbug and enjoyed his pets, both dogs and cats. He was of the Methodist Faith.
Those left to cherish his memory include his devoted wife of 54 years, Rebecca Susan “Becky” Smith Harris, of the home; a son, Jeffrey Marvin Harris; a daughter, Rebecca Ellen English (Rob); and two grandsons, Russell Earl English and Paul Austin English, all of Piney Flats. A nephew, Kent Harris, and a sister-in-law, Jane Harris, also survive.
