“Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.” Proverbs 31:10
Velma Grace “Pete” Elliott, 89, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, February 11, 2018. Pete was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Alice and Hicks Davis. In addition to her parents, Pete was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Elliott; five brothers; four sisters; her son-in-law, Harold Ellis; and a special nephew, Danny Ray Elliott.
Pete was devoted to the Lord and her family above all else. She was the rock of her family and was a fierce prayer warrior for anyone who asked her to pray for them. Her faith and her will were unwavering. Pete was Mom to Sherry, Serena, and Rick, Granny to Jarrod and Emily, but she was “Miss Pete” to countless Sunday School students, children at Bible school, and many, many friends. She mothered all who needed it and worried about and prayed for anyone she cared about.
Pete was a charter member of Biltmore Baptist Church, but was later a member of Fairview Baptist Church for many years.
Those left to cherish Pete’s memory include her son, Rick Elliott and wife Karen of Johnson City; two daughters, Serena Cantley and her husband Jay of Kingsport, and Sherry Hubbard and her husband Steve of Elizabethton; her grandchildren, Jarrod Ellis and wife Megan of Elizabethton, Emily Elliott Harrison and husband Tyler of Elizabethton, Laura and Benjamin Jones and Jay Cantley III, all of Kingsport, as well as several nieces and nephews, and her special friend, Peggy Potter.
A service to celebrate and honor Pete’s life will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 15, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Dr. Ken Jordan and Rev. Gary Roe officiating. Music will be provided by Leanne Manning, Joe Johnson and Scott Reynolds. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, February 16, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Jarrod Ellis, Tyler Harrison, Tim Rasnick, David Rasnick, Doug Rasnick and Tony Carr. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Fairview Baptist Church. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 10:15 a.m. Friday to go in procession. The family would like to thank Judy DeLoach, all the CNAs and nurses, and the entire staff of Ivy Hall for the loving care shown to Pete during her time there. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fairview Baptist Church, 585 Watauga Road, Watauga, TN 37694. Online condolences may be shared with the family on our website, www.tetrickfuneralhome.com.
