George Harvey McQueen, 78, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Savior on Sunday, February 18, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.
George was a lifelong resident of Elizabethton in the Blackbottom Community. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 58 years, Carolyn Louise Culler McQueen, and loved his entire family dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Deborah Smith McQueen; brothers, Harry, Shirley, J.D., Ivan, Charles, Kenny and F.M.; and sisters, Sue, Margie and Beatrice.
He is survived by his wife, Louise; sons, Jim and wife Becky, and Steve and wife Lesa; grandsons, Cody and wife Chasedy and Steven and fiancée Lacey Elliott; and great-granddaughter, Caylin; as well as several nieces and nephews.
George was a graduate of Elizabethton High School. He retired from Allied Metals Company after 45 years of service. He served seven years in the Tennessee Army National Guard. He loved helping his neighbors, family and friends, and also enjoyed playing golf with his golf buddies. He loved meeting with his friends each morning to drink coffee and discuss the day’s events and to “solve the world’s problems.”
George was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church and a child of God.
Funeral services for George Harvey McQueen will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 22, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jack Lloyd officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, February 23, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Friday, will be Pete Taylor, David McQueen, Danny McQueen, Edd Townsend, Terry McQueen, Jason Taylor, Steven McQueen and Cody McQueen. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Lipford, Larry McKinney, Jack Campbell and the rest of his morning meeting buddies, Willie Holtsclaw, John Holtsclaw, Jim Maupin, Lewis LeGrande, Paul Lacus and all of the past and present employees of Allied Metals Company. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Friday to go to the cemetery.
