Georgia Nell Pierce Perkins

Georgia Nell Pierce Perkins, 85, of Butler, Tenn., went to her Heavenly home on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. She was born in Johnson County, Tenn., on January 4, 1933 to the late Dan and Mary Grindstaff. In addition to her parents, Georgia Nell was preceded in death by her first husband, Delmar Pierce, and their son, D.C. Pierce.
Georgia Nell was a true example of a servant of God. She was a me+ mber of First Baptist Church of Mountain City, Tenn., and former member of Rock Springs Baptist Church. She served her church, family and community in many roles. Georgia Nell started volunteering at the VA Medical Center years ago and continued that work until her health would not allow her. She was also an active member of the American Legion Post #61, VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #6908 and the DAV of Elizabethton.
Georgia Nell was a wonderful cook. She was always cooking meals and desserts for her family and friends. She had a wonderful personality and loved to visit and talk with people and was always helping others.
Those left to cherish her memories include her second husband, RG Perkins; daughter and son-in-law, Carolene Pierce McGlamery and husband Lawrence McGlamery; daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Pierce and special friend David Stevens; grandchildren, Christopher Pierce and wife Amanda and Shannon Wood and husband Charlie; great-grandchildren, Carson Pierce and MaKayla Wood; step-daughter, Janie Sams and husband Eddie and their family; several nieces and nephews; her special ‘telephone’ friends who she spoke with daily, Hazel Crowder, Luella Dunn, Shirley Bunting, Lynn Stout and Virgie McGlamery; and many more special friends and neighbors.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, February 24, at the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with Pastor Roy Wilson and Pastor Kreg Smith officiating. Special prayer will be by Freddie Arnold Sr. Special music will be provided by Mr. Joe Simcox. The graveside service and interment be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 25, in the Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Ed Hoak, Ray Stout, Blaine Branch, Eddie Sams, Jeff McGlamery, Frankie Gentry, Kyle Pierce and John Brookshire. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Grindstaff, Danny Grindstaff, Johnny Nave, Danny Cullop, Dr. Scott May, John Coolahan, Dean Campbell, Tyler Stevens, Brad Gentry, Steve Greene, Ben Stout and Dr. Khan. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Georgia Nell’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice. The family expresses their appreciation and gratitude to the staff of Sycamore Shoals Hospital ICU, Johnson County Rescue Squad, Carter County Rescue Squad and Dry Run First Responders for all their kindness and care give to Georgia Nell. At other times the family will receive friends at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Carolene Pierce McGlamery, 390 RD Campbell Road, Butler, Tenn.
