Retha Mae Whaley Hatley

Retha Mae Whaley Hatley, 96, of Butler, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, April 1, 2018, at her residence after an extended illness.
A native of Butler, she was a daughter of the late Carter and Maggie Arnold Whaley.
Mrs. Hatley was a homemaker. She loved to work in her garden and loved to baby-sit with children in her community. She was a member of Elk River Baptist Church where she loved to work with children during Vacation Bible School.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Ray Hatley, in 1962, and a grandson, James Hatley.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Lynda Hatley, Butler; a granddaughter, Teresa Hodge and husband Russell, Butler; a great-granddaughter and husband, Amber and Garrett Vankleeck, Elizabethton; several nieces and nephews; and her cat, Gray.
Funeral services for Retha Mae Whaley Hatley will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Toby Rainbolt officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, in the Whitehead Cemetery, Butler. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Amedisys Hospice, Gail and Lori and Pastor Ed Talley. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Wednesday.
