Martin B. Bennett

Martin B. Bennett, 88, of Hampton, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018, at Hermitage Health Center following an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Malley and Lillie Arnett Bennett.
Mr. Bennett served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was co-owner of Hampton Auto Parts and a member of Union Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Lynn Bennett; five brothers, Barney, Grant, Darius, Claude and Clinton Bennett; and one sister, Jane Ward.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Ruby Hicks Bennett; one daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Terry Banner, Hampton; one grandson, Isaac Banner; one sister, Myrtle Rhudy, Sulphur Springs; and his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jane Bennett and Wanda Bennett, Elizabethton, Carrie Keene, Oak Ridge, Edna and Edward Thomas, Ruth and Richard Barrie, all of Elizabethton, E.C. Vines of Ohio and J.D. Cook, Roan Mountain. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Martin B. Bennett will be conducted at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, April 8, at Union Baptist Church with the Rev. James Strickland and the Rev. Wesley Duncan officiating. Interment will follow in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Doug Ranshaw officiating. Active pallbearers will be David Bennett, Mickey Bennett, Ricky Whitehead, Kenneth Thomas, Dale Cook, Teddy Hardin, Terry Banner and Allen Hobbs. Honorary pallbearers will be former employees of Hampton Auto Parts and his church family. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Amedisys Hospice, the staff of Sycamore Springs Living Center and the staff of Hermitage Health Center. In lieu of flowers the family requests you help someone who is in need or spend some time with a sick or shut-in. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Union Baptist Church. Friends may also visit with the family at his residence. Condolences may be sent to the family at his residence.
