Evelyn Ruth Marlowe Roberts, 72, of Roan Mountain, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2018, at her residence.
A native of Roan Mountain, she was a daughter of the late Ralph Marlowe and Missouri Karmen Starnes Hampton and her husband, Will Hampton.
Evelyn was a 1963 graduate of Cloudland High School. She along with her late husband operated the Roan Mountain Super Market for 22 years. She was a member of Lower Shell Creek Christian Church.
Evelyn loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Lawrence Roberts, who passed away June 21, 2015.
Survivors include her children, Larry Roberts and wife Kristie, Roan Mountain, and Dr. Brittney Roberts Terry and husband Derek, Kingsport; five grandchildren, Chloe and Emma Roberts and Atley, Anson and Abbott Terry; one sister, Jean Roberts, Roan Mountain; two brothers, W.O. Hampton and wife Helen, and Jimmy Hampton, all of Roan Mountain; several nieces and one nephew; and her special friends, Gary and Judy Stocton.
The graveside service for Evelyn Ruth Marlowe Roberts will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, in the Roberts Family Cemetery, Roan Mountain, with Mr. Gerald Holly, minister, officiating. Interment will follow the service. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, will be Derek Terry, Beecher Hart, W.O. Hampton, Jimmy Hampton, Gary Stocton and Lee McCoury. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday to go to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Cloudland High School Athletic Department as Evelyn and Lawrence were lifelong “Highlander” supporters.
