Sarah F. Rogers Wells Heighway

Sarah F. Rogers Wells Heighway, 83, of Noblesville, Ind., passed away Friday, April 13, 2018, at her residence.
A native of Unicoi County, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Mary Hodge Rogers.
Sarah was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and a graduate of the Indianapolis School of Practical Nursing. She became a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1969. She was also owner and operator of Lakeview Guest Home at Carmel, Ind., for several years. In addition, she assumed the responsibility of administrator for the Kokomo Convalescent Center for three years. Lastly she worked for the Indiana State Board of Health at Indianapolis for on-site surveying of skilled and intermediate nursing homes and residential care facilities to ensure that licenses were current and certification requirements were being met.
Sarah had planned and implemented national and state health care conventions and education programs and had served as a panelist and lecturer for those entities.
Memberships include several professional associations, plus she was a 25-year member of Carmel Chapter of Eastern Star and a long-time active member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Noblesville, Ind. Sarah was also a founding member and Queen Mum of the Sassy Sisters Red Hat Society.
She married Seth Ted Wells in 1953, who preceded her in death in 1987. She later married George F. Heighway in 1990, who preceded her in death in 2015. In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Wells; a brother, Joe Rogers; and sisters, Georgia Campbell, Hester Heatherly, Ruby Hampton, Ruth Glover and Hazel Nave.
Survivors include her daughter, Teresa Lee Shafer, Lebanon, Ind.; step-daughter, Ann Heighway, Fishers, Ind.; step-sons, Rob Heighway, Indianapolis, Ind., and David Heighway, Noblesville, Ind.; her sisters, Eula Pierce and Wanda Townsend, both of Elizabethton; her grandchildren, Brandon, Brandy and Taylor Shafer and Riley, Mike and Nick Heighway; and her great-grandchildren, Caden Shafer, Dakota and Davian Malone and Austin Heighway.
Graveside services for Sarah F. Rogers Wells Heighway will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at Happy Valley Memorial Park, with a Eulogy by Tyler McMullins. Interment will follow the service. Pallbearers, who need to be at the funeral home by noon Saturday, are Taylor Shafer, Mike Ensor, Jeff Pierce, Nick Holder, Dan Holder, Josh Rasnick, Keith Glover and Steve Buckles. The family will receive friends at Memorial Funeral Chapel, Elizabethton, from 11 a.m. until noon Saturday, prior to the graveside service.
