Sometimes music can be used to drive communities together.

That’s the goal for Blue Fox Band as they prepare rock inside the T.A. Dugger Junior High auditorium on Saturday, April 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. to raise funds for Relay For Life.

Saturday will mark the fourth consecutive year that Blue Fox Band, featuring members of the Elizabethton High School Class of 1970, has offered a free concert to assist with the local chapter of Relay For Life. While the event is free and open to the public, donations are encouraged and will go directly to the American Cancer Society.

Band members include Andy Houston, Barry “Corky” Jolly, Jim Bass, John Gardner, Lee Gouge, Randy Campbell and Tony Rominger.

Attendees for the event can expect a variety of old school rock, Thomason added, with the group delving into the tunes from ’60s, ’70s and ’80s.

Prior to last year’s concert, the band visited the Elizabethton Star to promote the event. With band members living as far as Texas, Saturday’s event is a way to come together as a family and tackle an issue that has affected everyone.

Cancer has touched so many people,” Bass told the Elizabethton Star. “My wife is going through breast cancer now. She’s been through her chemotherapy, her radiation treatment and she’s going to finish up with reconstructive surgery. My plight is to push awareness about the disease. You’ve got to think about not laying down, but moving forward and being determined to defeat this disease.”

Following the 2017 concert, Kathy Thomason, communications chair with the local Relay For Life chapter, informed the Elizabethton Star the concert raised over $2,500.

Opportunities are endless for residents wanting to participate in Carter County’s 2018 Relay For Life season. To learn more about the upcoming event or how to get involved, email jessica.poff@cancer.org or visit the Relay For Life of Carter County, TN Facebook page.
