Deputies of the Carter County Sheriff’s Office arrested Sarah Denise Clawson, 28, no address available, on Monday and charged her with aggravated assault.

According to police reports, deputies responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a home on Jackson Avenue shortly before 12:30 a.m. on Monday.

When officers arrived at the residence, they spoke with a woman who said that Clawson, whom she identified as her former step-daughter, came to her home and was kicking the door.

“She said that Clawson then walked into the home and began to swing a hammer at her,” EPD Sgt. David Caldwell said. “(The woman) said that there was a short altercation when Clawson hit her with the claw end of the claw hammer.”

Caldwell noted the woman’s mouth was bleeding and increasingly swelling while he spoke with her.

The woman said she was able to get away from Clawson and began to call 911.

“She said Clawson then begged her not to call and ran into a trailer next door,” Caldwell said. “Lt. (Brian) Durham and Constable Mark Carrier then went to the residence next door, and the homeowner allowed them inside and they found Clawson hiding beside the bed.”

“Clawson was heavily intoxicated and would not comment on the use of the hammer but did say that she went to the residence and did fight with (the woman),” Caldwell added.

Deputies arrested Clawson on a charge of aggravated assault and transported her to the Carter County Detention Center.
