Lee Roy McGuire, 100, of Wilson, N.C., passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018. He was a native of Watauga County and lived there for much of his life.
Lee was the last surviving of 14 children of William and Lou Wright McGuire. He served his country with honor and pride during WWII, serving in the Asian Theatre and the occupational force in Germany following the war. After retirement from the Air Force, he continued to serve his country through a second career at the Library of Congress, retiring as a Lieutenant in the police force.
Lee is survived by his daughter, Sylvia McGuire Tucker, of the home, and sons, Richard McGuire of Elm City, Leonard McGuire of Palm Springs, Calif., and David McGuire and wife, Susan, of Annandale, Va.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Annie Louiza McGuire.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at Austin Barnes Funeral Home, 194 Queen Street, Boone. Interment will follow immediately at Mt. Lawn Memorial Park, 521 Old East King Street, Boone, with Military Honors. Condolences may be directed to Joyner’s Funeral Home at www.joyners.net.
