Dr. Carl G. Royer

Dr. Carl G. Royer passed away unexpectedly at the Johnson City Medical Center on Friday, April 27, 2018, at the age of 81. He was born in Somerset, Pa., on March 25, 1937. He had lived in Roan Mountain, Tenn., for the past 37 years. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Samuel T. Royer Jr. and Louise Gall Royer, and a son, Carl Gall Royer.
Carl graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Veterinary Medicine and was a practicing veterinarian for 53 years. He was a member of Heartland Fellowship in Elizabethton.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Constance D. Royer, of the home; three sisters, Elizabeth Watson of Sabillasville, Md., Rebecca Urian of Thurmont, Md., and Pauline Stitely of Kingsport; and a brother, Samuel Royer of Thurmont, Md. His children are Justine Hein of Kingsport, Tenn., Stephen Swales of Woodbine, Md., Theodore Royer of Lantana, Fla., and Pamela Butziger of Columbia, Md. His grandchildren are Jessica Strom, Jeremiah Hein, Jonathan Hein, Joel Hein, Lauren Myrick, Lukas Royer, Nathan Swales and Benjamin Swales; and eight great-grandchildren, Ilsa Strom, Ilena Strom, Iason Strom, Molly Hein, Malachi Hein, Mattias Hein, Eve Hein and Ezra Hein. His family was the delight of his heart.
A service to honor the life of Dr. Royer will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Marvin Slagle officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service. A burial service will be conducted on Wednesday, May 2, in the Dotson Cemetery, Roan Mountain. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Heartland Fellowship, 211 Heartland Way, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
