Thomas Max Simerly

Thomas Max Simerly, 30, of Raleigh, N.C., passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at his residence.
Thomas was born April 27, 1988 in Elizabethton. He was a graduate of Unicoi County High School. He attended King College with a BS in Biochemistry, East Tennessee State University with a Masters in Chemistry and was currently a graduate student at North Carolina State University studying Chemistry/Polymers & Fibers set to graduate in December 2018. Thomas was a member of the American Chemistry Society. He was of the Free Will Baptist Faith.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carson and Lena Simerly and Nathan Woodby.
Survivors include his parents, Max and Teresa Simerly, Unicoi; his grandmother, Lucy Woodby, Unicoi; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends; and also his pet cat, Fred.
Funeral services for Thomas Max Simerly will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Randy English officiating. The graveside service and interment will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 20, in the McKinney Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m. Sunday, will be David Woodby, Eric Buchanan, Doug Shults, Jerry Byrd, Travis Coleman and Charlie Cash. Honorary pallbearers will be Ashish Virmani and Ross Graham. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit at his parents’ residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m. Sunday to go to the cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at our website, www.memorialfcelizabethton.com.
