Odell Willis

Odell Willis, 70, of Hampton, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Charlie and Senia Tolley Willis.
Odell worked as a Journeyman Lineman for Dillard Smith Construction. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #934, Kingsport.
Odell enjoyed horseback riding, taking care of his farm animals and spending time with his family. He was of the Baptist Faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Terry Byers; a brother, Larry Willis; a sister, Vernia Carver; as well as two half brothers, Eugene Jones and Clifford Tolley.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 49 years, Sue Ramsey Willis; three children, Jennifer Rene Byers, Christy and Kelvin Cannon and Jamie and Melissa Willis; five grandchildren, Katie and fiancé Scott Odom, Maggie Burchett, Destini Byers and Tre Brown, Derek Byers and Tyler Willis; two step-grandchildren, Terri Lynne Byers and Salyna Willis; a brother, Arnold Willis; and two sisters, Evelyn Gragg and Selma Carrico. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Odell Willis will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 24, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ken Hauser of Fellowship Community Church officiating. Music will be provided by Rick Sweeney. The graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 25, in the Townsend Cemetery, Banner Elk, N.C. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:50 a.m. Friday, will be Tyler Willis, Jamie Willis, Derek Byers, Kelvin Cannon, Scott Odom and Lester Rainbolt. Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Willis, Clarence Willis, Steve and Jacob Ramsey, Russ and Jake Norman, Eric Ollis and Lucas Ramsey. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:50 a.m. Friday to go to the cemetery.
