Our beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend, Carl A. “Keen” Cable, 79, made his ascent to Heaven on Saturday, May 26, 2018, from his residence, and without a doubt he was singing and shouting upon his arrival. Carl was born in Butler, Tenn., to the late John Delbert and Mary Alice Guy Cable. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gracie Potter Cable, on July 26, 1996, and one sister and brother- in-law, Wilma and Elmer Dugger.
Carl retired from Watauga Industries and was a member of Piney Grove Church of Christ in the Poga Community of Butler, but he attended Centerview Church of Christ in Elizabethton. Carl had been both a Men’s Sunday School teacher and a song leader at Piney Grove Church of Christ. He was a former Union President for Lee’s Dye Workers and was a staunch democrat and loved working elections. Carl had a gift for comforting those who were hurting and visited many nursing homes and hospitals, and was in attendance at many, many funerals. He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him, there is a void left in his absence.
Those left to cherish his wonderful memories include his devoted and loving daughter, Sherry Cable, of the home; his son, Terry Cable, of the home; his grandchildren and the lights of his life, Brittany Cable, of the home, and Shannon and Corey, both of Jonesborough; two great-grandchildren, Mason and Mya, both of Jonesborough; his brother, Opal Cable of Butler; and his aunt, Callie Lockmiller of Michigan. Several beloved sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews and a multitude of church family, neighbors and friends also survive.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of Carl A. “Keen” Cable will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. Dean Estep and Mr. Donnie Cable, ministers, officiating. Music will be provided by Vanessa Cox and Cameron Hill. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service.
