James Roby Hopson, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord, June 21, 2018.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother.
Everyone he met became his friend. He enjoyed his family, friends, fishing, and collecting keepsakes.
He enjoyed his dogs, Pepper and Muffin.
He was the son of the late Dora Hopson Gilbert and W.J. Gilbert.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Hopson, of 54 years; daughter, Becky Greenwell and husband Bucky of Hampton, Tenn.; son, Jimmy Hopson, of the home; grandsons, Dalton and Colton Greenwell of Hampton. Roby was also known as Pa to Wesley Debnam and Will Davis; sisters, Dixie and husband Morton Holt, Ormond Beach, Fla., and Linda Gehring of Pennsylvania; special friends, Bill and Phyllis Elliott, and Mark Birchfield, and special nephews, Lance Thompson and Mike Ward.
In addition to his parents, Roby was preceded in death by sister, Janet Anderson, brothers, Roger and Sidney Gilbert.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 24, at 3 p.m. at Evergreen Freewill Baptist Church, Morgan Branch Road, Roan Mountain, Tenn., with Rev. John Henry McCoury officiating.
