Celebrating Independence: Hundreds gather for annual event in Roan Mountain

Hundreds gathered in Roan Mountain on Thursday evening for the annual Independence Day Celebration at The Waters of Roan Highlands.
The celebration has become a tradition at The Waters of Roan Highlands with the skilled nursing facility hosting the free event for the entire community. The event features a wide variety of free activities for children and families such as inflatables, a bounce house, door prizes, and free health screenings and vision checks.
Attendees were treated to free food for the event by Roan Highlands, but festival favorites such as funnel cakes, kettlecorn, and snow cones were available for purchase.
A variety of local businesses and organizations set up tents around the grounds for the skilled nursing facility, with many of them handing out free items to attendees.
Entertainment for the evening was provided by the Trail Blazer Cloggers followed by music by WyldeHeart. The band played a mix of classic rock, blues, country, ’80s, Hip-Hop, and more.
Thursday evening’s celebration concluded with a fireworks show by the Roan Mountain Volunteer Fire Department.
