William C. “Wimpy” Hampton Sr.

William C. “Wimpy” Hampton Sr., 91, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 1, 2018, at the Mountain Home V.A. Hospital.
Wimpy was born in Elizabethton to the late James and Daisy Mae Headrick Hampton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Dorothy Shortt Hampton; two brothers, Preston Hampton and Lester Hampton; and one sister, Mozella Orr.
Wimpy was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a friend to many. He was a member of Valley Forge Christian Church where he served as an Elder. He was a veteran of the United States Army and the United States Navy, who proudly served his country in World War II. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #750 of Hampton. He enjoyed spending time in his garden and playing golf. He will be missed by many.
Those left to cherish his memory include a daughter, Vickie Mottern and her husband Joe of Elizabethton; two sons, William C. “Wimpy” Hampton Jr. and his wife Kim of Elizabethton, and Kevin Sam Hampton and his wife Kristen of Elizabethton; eight grandchildren, Nikki Robertson, Anthony Payne, Maleah Hampton, Emilia Halstead, Chelsea Hampton, Abigail Hampton, Joey Mottern and Faith Mottern; and eight great-grandchildren, Sydney Robertson, Sierra Robertson, Miah Collins, Wesley Martin III, Kaytie Mottern, Joseph Mottern, Ben Jimenez and Ashely Jimenez.
A graveside service to honor the life of William C. “Wimpy” Hampton Sr. will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Mr. David Siebenaler, minister, Rev. Benic P. Hampton and Rev. Clay Bailey will be officiating. Active pallbearers will be the deacons and elders of Valley Forge Christian Church, Dennis Guinn, Anthony Payne, Joey Mottern and Joe Mottern. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard and masonic rites will be conducted by Masonic Lodge #750. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Valley Forge Christian Church, Benevolence Fund, 114 V F Christian Church Road, Elizabethton, TN 37643. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and staff of the Mountain Home V.A. Hospital for the loving care given to Mr. Hampton.
