John Carroll McDorman, 56, of Roan Mountain, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 15, 2018, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. John was born in Crisfield, Md., to Timothy and Patricia McDorman. He was preceded in death by a brother, Tim McDorman Jr.
John was first and foremost a family man, an amazing husband and father who loved life. John was a hardworking man with a huge heart that he opened up for everyone. He was a United States Navy veteran and a member of both the Moose Lodge and the Elks Lodge in Elizabethton. John was an avid Redskins fan. He loved coaching, riding motorcycles and music.
John had worked as a control room operator at NRG Power Plant in Dagsboro, Del.
Those left to cherish his memory include his parents, Timothy and Patricia McDorman of Crisfield, Md.; his wife, Ginger Marie Buchanan McDorman, of the home; three sons, William Carroll McDorman and wife Christy of Easton, Md., Matthew Sterling McDorman of Seaford, Del., and Brandon Tyler McDorman of Georgetown, Del.; two daughters, Alexis Joyce Ward of Georgetown, Del., and Kimberlyn Nicole Hurlock and husband Michael of Seaford, Del.; three grandchildren, Payton Hope McDorman, Evelyn Caryl McDorman and Colten Landry Hurlock; two sisters, Mina Beck of Georgetown, Del., and Rene King of Salisbury, Md.; and three brothers, Jerry McDorman of Bridgeville, Del., Timmy Joe McDorman of Lincoln, Del., and Brent McDorman of Ellicott City, Md. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of John Carroll McDorman will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, July 20, at Hampton Christian Church with Mr. Dwayne Calhoun, minister, officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 until 3 p.m. Friday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow at John Whitehead Cemetery in Hampton. Honorary pallbearers will be James Buchanan and David Wayne Buchanan. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard.
