Lynn Valley Baptist
Vanessa Cox, a senior at Hampton High School, where she is a cheerleader, will present special singing Sunday at the 6 p.m. worship service at Lynn Valley Baptist Church.
She now sings the National Anthem at Hampton High ballgames, Twins games, Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway and more. Vanessa placed second in the Tennessee Soloist Vocalist of the Year competition and it took her to Nashville this past July to the Country Music Association. She sang at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville with the 2016 Songwriter of the year, Jerry Salley. Vanessa says her passion is to “Sing for the Lord.” She released a CD last year of Gospel Hymns and is currently working on a Christmas CD to be released this fall.

CCCMF Meeting
The Carter County Christian Men’s Fellowship will meet Tuesday, Aug. 21, at 7 p.m. at Southside Christian Church. The guest speaker will be Ethan Magness.
There will be a time of fellowship after the preaching and worship service.

First United Methodist
The Rev. Raymond Amos, Sr., pastor, will present the sermon “Don’t You Dare Give Up Now!’ at the Sunday morning worship service Aug. 19 at First United Methodist Church, Elizabethton. The service begins at 9:55 a.m. and the sermon text is II Timothy 1: 6-14.
Sunday School is at 11:20 a.m.
The 4:12 Junior High Student Ministries will meet Sunday from 4:12 to 5:25 p.m. and the Senior High Ministries will meet from 5:30 to 7:15 p.m.
The Wednesday night Life Lessons service will be at 6 p.m. in the church fellowship hall.

Poplar Grove
Rodel Domingo, missionary and pastor to the Philippines, will speak Sunday at the 11 a.m. service at Poplar Grove Baptist Church, Highway 91, Stoney Creek.
He will share his testimony and music.
Eric Wright, pastor, invites the public to attend.

First Christian
Building Fund Sunday will be observed Sunday at First Christian Church, Elizabethton, when funds will be collected for church maintenance.
The Sunday morning service begins at 9:45 a.m. with Dr. David Mills as worship leader. Minister Michael Klaus will present the message.
The communion meditation will be given by Todd Maines and Cara Hutton will read scripture. Leslie Brackley will present special music.
Bible school classes will meet at 11 a.m.
At 6 p.m., the church family is invited to attend Vespers at the Klaus home. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish for the potluck supper.
The Tuesday morning prayer group will meet at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary with John Smith as leader.
The Wednesday evening Bible study will be at 6 p.m. in the sanctuary with the study continuing on “Drive Through the Gospels.”

Roan Street Free Will
Special singing will be presented by Calvary’s Road Sunday at Roan Street Free Will Baptist Church. The service will begin at 6 p.m.
The church is located at 820 N. Roan St., and Tim Gouge is pastor.

Unaka Baptist
An “All You Can Eat Fish Fry” will be held this evening at Unaka Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Time is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and the cost is $10.

First Presbyterian
The pastor, Dr. Brian Wyatt, will present the message Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, Elizabethton.
The morning worship service will begin at 11 a.m. Scripture reading is Mark 10: 17-31.
An Education Hour for all ages is at 9:45 a.m.
Other opportunities of the week include Meditation at 7 p.m. Wednesday; the Thursdays with Jesus Reading Group, Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to noon; and yoga Friday from 10 a.m. to noon.

Roan Park
Homecoming will be celebrated Sunday at Roan Park Baptist Church, Roan Mountain.
Sunday School begins at 10 a.m. followed by morning worship at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served following the morning service

Gospel singing
The Sacred Journey Quartet along with Sounds of Victory will sing Saturday at the Covered Bridge Park from 7 to 9 p.m.

Phillippi Baptist
Homecoming will be observed Sunday at Phillippi Baptist Church, Elizabethton, with Sunday School at 10 a.m. and morning worship at 11 a.m.
Lunch will be served at 1 p.m. and the homecoming service will be at 3 p.m.
The special speaker for the afternoon service is the Rev. Lester Lattney, moderator of the Bethel District. Music will be provided by the Brown’s Chapel Choir.
The Rev. Joseph Hollifield is pastor.
