Friday night on Warrior Hill was a game that Happy Valley would rather forget as the Warriors suffered a 33-7 loss to Volunteer.

Head coach Jason Jarrett served his one-game suspension with assistant coach Greg Hyder taking the reins for the night.

Happy Valley (0-1) was held to a mere 4 yards of total offense in the first half, while suffering five fumbles – losing one – and had six penalties for 50 yards. The Warriors defense held the Falcons out of the end zone on their first three possessions but on the fourth one, junior quarterback Eli Dorton connected with receiver Peyton Baker on a 38-yard pass play that set the Falcons up at the Happy Valley 12 yard line.

One play later Dorton found flanker back Peyton Derrick on a 9-yard touchdown pass. Dawson Dykes added the point after for a 7-0 Volunteer lead. On its next possession, HV fumbled and linebacker Clay Snapp recovered for the Falcons at the Warrior 10-yard line. Two plays later Derrick scored on a 3-yard run over the left side of the line for a 13-0 Falcons lead after the kick failed.

Happy Valley began to look better as the third period opened with a drive that took the Warriors to the Falcons 20-yard line where quarter Will Tittle fumbled and Volunteer cornerback Bryson Miller raced 80 yards for a touchdown.

“We fell apart in the middle of the game there,” Hyder said. “The game swung on one play, and I thought he was out of bounds. It was a first down, and I thought Will was down and that play let the air out of us.”

Another HV fumble led to a Volunteer touchdown as Isaiah Bragg raced 43 yards for a score to make it a 27-0 Volunteer lead. The fourth period started much like the third with HV giving up a big play as Cameron Johnson rushed 80 yards around the left side of the Warriors defense for a touchdown and a 33-0 lead.

Tittle found tight end Bryce Carter on a 64-yard touchdown pitch and catch on the first play from scrimmage but that was the last HV would see of any more points.
