Lewis LaGrand Jr., 86, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 13, 2018, at Hillview Health Care Center surrounded by his family. Lewis was born in Banner Elk, N.C., to the late Lewis T. LaGrand Sr. and Susan K. Williams LaGrand. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Raymond Carden.
Lewis worked at Walmart, in many capacities, for 41 years and was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church. He attended ETSU and was a member of the Dogwood Chapter of Hudson Essex Terraplane Auto Club and of the National HET of America. Lewis was affectionately known as “Mr. Walmart” and had visited Sam Walton and his wife. He loved his Walmart family and his Hudson Terraplane Auto Club family. Lewis enjoyed walking, traveling, visiting with people, loved watching the Tennessee Lady Volunteers and loved to attend and participate in the Carter County Cruise-In. Lewis enjoyed his time traveling with his nephew, Gary Plank. He loved family gatherings, holidays, dinners and special occasions.
We will always cherish our sweet times with our Lewis. He was loved beyond words, he touched lives everywhere he went. He loved all that he knew and they loved him. We will miss him until we see him again.
Those left to cherish his memories include two sisters, Laura Lee Aycock and husband Jeff of Elizabethton and Sue Carden of Hampton, and his nieces and nephews, Gary Plank and wife Lorie, Theodore Carden, Laney Carden and wife Amanda, Susan Fenner and husband Jason and Charles Carden. Several great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.
