Goldia Marie Ward Scott, 78, of Elizabethton, went to be with her Lord, Monday, September 17, 2018, at Signature Health Center.
A native of Mountain City, she was a daughter of the late Nathan D. Ward Sr. and Sarah Tester Ward.
Goldia was a graduate of Johnson County High School and East Tennessee State College. She had lived in Elizabethton most of her life. She was a retired employee of Sycamore Shoals Hospital as a Medical Lab Technologist.
Goldia was an active member of East Side Baptist Church until her illness. She had taught many children through the years about the Bible.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Jack K. Scott; a son, Bryan Scott; and her brothers and sisters, Robert Ward, Nola Church, Dixie Norris, June Swift, Hill Ward, Nathan Ward Jr., Hazel Vaught and Sarah Long.
Survivors include her daughters, Holly Scott and Cindy Cable and husband Paul David; one granddaughter, Savanna Cable; one great-granddaughter, Nevaeh Marie Cable; one brother, Conrad J. Ward; and several nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate the life of Goldia Scott will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, September 21, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Dr. Dwight Hobbs officiating. Music will be provided by John Brookshire and Pastor Gale Hartley. Eulogy will be given by Mabel Rogers. The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 22, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Saturday, will be John Brookshire, Allen Frost, Tony Hardin, Hunter Nelson, Sam Rogers, Mike Gass, Travis Gass, Jerry Boling and Richard “Jarfly” Dugger. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Elliott, Dwight Goad, Claude Duncan, Bill Miller, Steve Cornett, East Side Baptist Church Family and the many children whom she taught about the Bible. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Sam and Mabel Rogers, Mike and Shea Gass, Alsie Byrd, the Staff of 100 Hall, Signature Health, and Brooks with Avalon Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Goldia to East Side Baptist Church, 1509 Siam Road, Elizabethton, TN 37643. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Saturday to go to the cemetery.
