Michael Garrett “Mike” Gibbs

Michael Garrett “Mike” Gibbs, 60, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., passed away Friday, September 21, 2018, at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born in Elizabethton and was the son of Norma Cox Gibbs, Roan Mountain, and the late Jerry Dale Gibbs.
Mike retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation after 33 years as a Road Crew Supervisor. He was a member of Evergreen Freewill Baptist Church. He loved to restore and watch programs about classic cars, to travel and especially spend time with his grandchildren and his dog, Darby.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kristie Gibbs; his step-father, Eddie Baker; and grandmother, Juanita Baker.
In addition to his mother, those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sandy Lambert Gibbs, of the home; a daughter, Miranda Gibbs, of the home; two granddaughters, Lexzandra Gibbs and Shelby Gibbs; and a sister, Angela Baker Blair and husband Steve, Roan Mountain. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life service for Michael Garrett “Mike” Gibbs will be conducted at 6 p.m. Tuesday, September 25, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with Rev. John Henry McCoury officiating. The family will receive friends at the Rhododendron Chapel from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service, or at the residence of his mother at other times. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Johnson, Jack Johnson, Jim Simerly, Toby Guinn, Randy Guinn, Eston Blair and Teddy Hicks. Those who prefer memorial in lieu of flowers may make donations to The American Diabetes Association, 4660 Old Broadway Street, Knoxville, TN 37918.
