Alice Ruth (Stout) Hertzog, 91 years of age, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at Hermitage Healthcare following an extended illness. Born in Harrison City, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harry and Anna Jane (Deibler) Stout. She was a wonderful homemaker, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, neighbor and sister.
Alice Ruth made an art out of loving. She loved God with all of her heart. She deeply loved and was cherished by her husband, nine children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild. She truly loved her mother, father, and her nine brothers and sisters. She shared an abundant love with her brothers and sisters in Christ, her neighbors, her friends, and every stranger she met. Her love could be seen through her kind face and heard in her laughter and songs. Her love could even be tasted in her delicious hot rolls, Christmas cookies, and every meal she so generously offered to anyone who wished to join her family at the dinner table.
Alice Ruth dramatically demonstrated throughout her long life that love flourishes when it is given freely to others. She loved the Lord her God with all her heart, soul, and mind — and she loved her neighbor, just as she loved herself.
Alice Ruth Hertzog was a beautiful soul who found true joy in loving others.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Jacob Hertzog, November 10, 1996; one son, Leslie Hertzog, December 22, 1962; three brothers, Alvie, Harry and Lloyd Stout; three sisters, Anna Stough, Ella Carnes and Ida Smail; three great-grandchildren, Caleigh Ann Hertzog, Leslie Mae and Zoe Grace Dellinger.
Those left to cherish her memory include her eight children, Janet Carnes, Elizabethton, Tenn., Eddie (Debbie) Hertzog, Elizabethton, Tenn., Ernie (Patti) Hertzog, Grundy, Va., Cathy (Mike) Rose, Anawalt, W.Va., Keith (Janet) Hertzog, Elizabethton, Tenn., Lee Hertzog, Greensburg, Pa., Lori (Brian) Spencer, Winston-Salem, N.C., and Lisa (Josh) Peters, Grundy, Va.; and three sisters, Dorothy Martin, Harrison City, Pa., Hazel Rhea, Harrison City, Pa., and Gladys Pistho, McCullough, Pa.
