Tom White, 83, of the Fish Springs Community in Hampton, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 13, 2018, from Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Tom was born in Carter County to the late James “Ray” White and Hazel Smith White. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Sue White McQueen.
Tom was above all a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was also a well-known, well-liked businessman, having owned and operated Fish Springs Boat Dock for many, many years.
Tom served his country in Post-World War II as a United States Air Force veteran and was an established member of Little Milligan Baptist Church. He enjoyed being outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Tom will be dearly missed by the many friends, neighbors and his church family.
Those left to cherish Tom’s many wonderful memories include his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Nancy Elizabeth White, of the home; his two wonderful children, Thomas White and wife Michelle of Elizabethton and Melissa Carr and husband Mark of Knoxville; five grandchildren, Kate White, Rachael White and Andrew White, all of Elizabethton, and Jacob Carr and Avery Carr, both of Knoxville; and four sisters, Jane Isham and husband Wally and Shirley Hicks and husband Bob, all of Hampton, and Earlene Theilacker and husband George and Sally White Deloach, all of San Diego, Calif.
A service to celebrate the life of Tom White will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 17, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Cecil “Nick” Bradshaw, Rev. Garry Edwards and Rev. Sam Icenhour officiating. Music will be provided by Rev. Ronnie Campbell. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service, or at the residence at any time. The graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 18, in the White Family Cemetery in the Fish Springs Community. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Allen Matheson, J.R. Campbell, Jack Slemp, Bill Shoun, Mark Carr, Wally Isham, Shane Moody and Arklie Hooten. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Moody, Charlie and Mert Hodge, Stewart Vaughn, family and former and current customers of Fish Springs Marina & Campground, and all of his hunting buddies that are too numerous to mention individually.
