Dr. Robert Edward Frazier

Dr. Robert Edward Frazier, 53, of Winston-Salem, NC passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was born July 23, 1965 in Radford, VA. Dr. Frazier served as the Director of Music & Arts at Centenary United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem, NC. In addition to his fulltime church music responsibilities, he was an adjunct professor at Salem College School of Music. For six seasons, Rob served as the Assistant Conductor and Accompanist of the Oratorio Singers of Charlotte. As a concert organist, Rob made appearances as a recitalist in the USA and eastern Europe. During his tenure (2004-2012) as Director of Music Ministries at Myers Park Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, NC, a multi-year partnership emerged with The Great Church of Debrecen, Hungary and led to many collaborations, recitals, and radio broadcasts, including the world premiere of his “Prayer of Unity” composed to celebrate the partnership between the two churches. A Tennessee native and alumnus of East Tennessee State University, Dr. Frazier received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in organ performance and literature from the Eastman School of Music. He holds two masters degrees from the Eastman School of Music and Indiana University (Bloomington), in conducting and organ performance, respectively. Anyone who had the privilege of knowing or working with Rob knew that he loved his family deeply, and everyone he knew became part of that family. Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Laura Lynne Frazier; three children, Ian Frazier and his wife, Alexa and their son, Walker; Collin Frazier and Erika Frazier; his grandmother who raised him, Pauline Frazier; cousins, Shirley Pennebaker, Rusty Treadway, and their families. Also surviving are his mother and father-in-law, Loretta and Robert F. Hull and their family. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Centenary United Methodist Church. A reception will be held immediately following the service in Piner Hall at Arbor Acres.
