Barbara A. Carter, 94, died Monday, October 22, 2018 at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, NC. She was born July 16, 1924.
A native of Detroit, MI, she was the daughter of the late James Dillaway and Leone Gnau Dillaway. Barbara was also preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Lawrence Carter; and her son, Kevin Carter.
Formerly of Ferndale, Berkley, Royal Oak, MI, and Arden, NC, Mrs. Carter was an active member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church, in Arden, NC. She was a member of the Secular Franciscan Order (SFO) since 1948.
Barbara is survived by five sons: George of Warren, MI, Joel (Donna) of Hendersonville, NC, Gregory (Holly) of Mills River, NC, Alan of Hendersonville, NC, and Gary (Michelle) of Fletcher, NC; seven daughters: Laura (Mark) Mastracci of Berkley, MI, Gayle (Kent) Williams of Butler, TN, Karen (John) Blaszyk of Leonard, MI, Denise (Dan) Ficorelli of Warren, MI, Janet (Ray) Camilleri of Port Richey, FL, Christine (Sonny) Wechsler of Beverly Hills, MI, and Colleen (Jack) Hogan of Asheville, NC; 36 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 9, 2018 at 10:30 AM at St. Barnabas Catholic Church with Father Noah Carter officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 PM at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain. A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, November 8, at the church.
