Paul Douglas Scalf Sr., 69, of Elizabethton, passed away Monday, November 12, 2018, at Hermitage Health Center.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Harold and Edith Church Scalf and stepson of the late Lena Scalf.
Paul served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He was employed for a number of years at the Gaston County Sheriff’s Department, Gastonia, N.C., and the Quality Hall of Fame, Nashville, Tenn. Paul was a member of the D.A.V. and the V.F.W. Post 2166.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Thomas.
Survivors include his children, Paul Scalf Jr. and wife Misty and Mary Oliver and husband Lonnie, all of Elizabethton; one granddaughter, Mary Ann Reed, and one great-granddaughter; six brothers, Bill Fraley, Elizabethton, Bobby Scalf and wife Barbara, Erwin, James Wesley Scalf, Elizabethton, Delaney Scalf and wife Pam, Elizabethton, Scottie Scalf and wife Stephanie, Elizabethton, and Jerry Sheppard, Gray; four sisters, Annie Ruth Stines, Hickory, N.C., Robin Johnson and husband Vance, Elizabethton, Drema Tressler and friend Thomas West, Greeneville, and Charlotte Williams, Elizabethton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Paul Douglas Scalf Sr. will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, November 15, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Nathan Jennings officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 1:45 p.m. Friday, November 16, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family members. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence of a brother, Bill Fraley, 1613 Scenic Drive. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Scalf to the American Cancer Society, 871 N. Weisgarber Road, Knoxville, TN 37909.
