Richard D. Montgomery, 66, of Butler, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Howard and Marjorie White Montgomery.
Richard was a 1970 graduate of Hampton High School. He was employed as a meat cutter and was a member of Elk River Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Rachel Griffey.
Survivors include his children, Melisa Montgomery and Gregory Dunn and Ricky Montgomery and wife Miranda; seven grandchildren, Joshua, Zachary, Kacelyn, Makayla, Katie, Faith and Amber; one brother, Randy Montgomery and wife Barbara; the mother of his children, Janie Jack; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Richard D. Montgomery will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday, November 17, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Charles Cable officiating. The graveside service and interment will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 18, in the Whitehead Cemetery, Butler. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Sunday, will be Ricky Montgomery, Tony Griffey, Steven Markland, Justin Bunting, Patrick Carpenter and Alan Pearson. Honorary pallbearers will be Otis Griffey, Greg Dunn, Larry Potter and Gurney Ray Pilk. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at his residence. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of ICU and the 6400 Wing of Johnson City Medical Center.
