Jeffrey Powell named Machine Tool instructor at TCAT Elizabethton

Jeffrey Powell, a native of Roan Mountain, has been named Machine Tool instructor at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology, College President Dean Blevins announced today.

At age 14, Powell began working alongside his grandfather in his family’s machine shop. His interest in the machinist world grew from there.

After graduating from Elizabethton High School, Powell continued his education at Northeast State Community College. In 2011, he obtained his degree in Machine Tool Technology. He has been an employee of Ty’s Tool and Die, Kennametal, and Modern Forge Tennessee, where he has spent the majority of his working career.

In his spare time, Powell enjoys fishing and watching Vols football games. “I am excited at the prospect of helping students learn the concepts of Machine Tool Technology, while providing a safe, hands-on learning environment.” Powell said he also looks forward to introducing program graduates to employment opportunities.
