Sandra Jean May

Sandra Jean May, 71, of Jonesborough, entered Heaven on Friday, November 16, 2018, at the Bristol Regional Medical Center following a prolonged illness. A native of the Central Community in Carter County, she was a 1965 graduate of Happy Valley High School and a long-time employee of Kennametal, Inc. She was the daughter of the late Clyde Hughes and Helen Hughes. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald H. May.
Sandra was a lifelong member of King Springs Church of Christ in Johnson City, Tenn. Aside from time with her family, she also loved painting and enjoyed gardening.
In addition to her mother, those left to cherish Sandra’s memory include sons, Joe May (Ashley) and Jeremy May (Megan); grandchildren, Olivia, Ava, Izzy, Layla, and Kendon May; and siblings, James Hughes, Penny Townsend and Tom Hughes.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staffs of Greystone Healthcare Facility and Bristol Regional Medical Center ICU for the care imparted to Mrs. May over the past year.
The family will gather to receive friends on Friday, November 23, from 5 p.m. until a celebration of Sandra’s life beginning at 6 p.m. in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to King Springs Church of Christ, 1701 Dave Buck Road, Johnson City, TN 37601.
