Lady Grizzlies maul Elizabethton 70-48

GRAINGER — After a tough weekend in Bristol, the Elizabethton Lady Cyclones were looking to get back on track with a trip to Grainger County High School to tangle with an always strong regional opponent in the Lady Grizzlies of Grainger Co.

Unfortunately, the Lady Grizzlies mistook the Lady Cyclones for fresh turkey and the result was a 22-point feast by Grainger, 70-48.

The Lady Grizzlies were roaring loud in the first half as Grainger built a very comfortable 20-point advantage, 41-21.

Tori Rutherford put on a scoring clinic in the first 16 minutes for Grainger as Rutherford blistered the cotton to the tune of 23 points. Isabella Stratton lent a big hand with eight points which included two treys.

McKendra Norris and Morgan Headrick worked their way to eight points each in the half to lead the Lady Cyclones. Norris hit two treys while Headrick was 4-of-4 from the charity stripe.

Abbie Townsend added four points in the half.

The Lady Cyclones managed to keep the second half tighter being outscored only two points, 29-27, but couldn’t find enough points to shave any off the big lead built in the opening half.

Rutherford maintained her hot hand in the second half with 11 points to finish the contest with a game-high 34 points for Grainger.

Stratton finished the contest with 11 points with McKenzie Stratton and Aliah Maloney contributing 7 and 6 points respectively.

Headrick had a strong second half for Elizabethton hitting for 11 points to finish with a team-leading 19 points.

Norris collected 10 for the contest with teammates Townsend and Kaylen Shell netting six points each.

Cheyenne VanHuss (3), Kelsie Winters (3), and Torrie Roberts (1) closed out the scoring for the Lady Cyclones.
