Jr. Bulldogs lasso Jr. Longhorns for pair of wins

The Jr. Longhorns of Johnson County were hoping to kick up some dirt against the Hampton Jr. Bulldogs on Monday evening, but it was the Jr. ‘Dogs who kept nipping at the Jr. Longhorn heels to take a pair of victories in middle school basketball action.

In boy’s action, the Jr. Bulldogs played consistently on offense from start to finish to keep enough distance between themselves and the Jr. ‘Horns to earn the 48-40 win.

Hampton opening up the first quarter by outscoring Johnson Co. 17-12 to set the pace for the remainder of the game.

Dylan Trivett opened the game with the hot hand scoring five points in the opening quarter. Austin Bentley and Jonathan Greenwell had a big part in the early advantage with four points each.

The Jr. Bulldogs managed to keep the pressure on in the second quarter by adding 13 points to their side of the scoring column while Johnson County played the game a little closer by adding 12 of their own to make it 30-24 at the intermission

Bentley’s four points in the stanza paced Hampton with Levi Lyons, Brody Hicks, and Hayden Campbell knocked down three points each to help the Jr. Dogs stay out in front in the half.

Peyton Pavusek scored eight points in the half to keep the Jr. Longhorns in the contest with Christian Lipford adding five points.

Hampton came out of the locker room stingy in the third quarter corralling the Jr. ‘Horns allowing only seven points in the quarter.

Meanwhile, the Jr. Bulldogs remained steady offensively getting 7 points from Bentley to outscore Johnson County 13-7 heading into the final period of play to take a 43-31 lead.

The Jr. ‘Horns owned the final quarter outscoring Hampton 9-5 but falling short of taking the win.

Bentley totaled 15 points to lead the Jr. Bulldogs in the game with plenty of help from Hicks and Trivett who chipped in with 7 points each.

Cadon Buckles and Campbell collected 6 points apiece with Lyons closing out the Jr. Dogs scoring with 3 points.

Nick Speed finished the game with 11 to lead the Jr. Longhorn effort while Pavusek added 10 points.

The Jr. Lady Bulldogs took care of business by handing the Jr. Lady ‘Horns a 16-point defeat to help make it a clean sweep for Hampton.

Chloe Watson had a big hand in the win for Hampton by scoring 10 points. The Jr. Lady ‘Dogs had balanced scoring in the contest as Shanie Pierce added 9 points, Kenzie Ramey 8 points, and Bre Davis 6 points.

Lindsay Hardin (2), Rylie McClain (2), and Linsey Jenkins (1) closed out the scoring ledger for Hampton.

Brookanna had 11 points to show the way for Johnson County.
