James “Jimmy” Adkins

James “Jimmy” Adkins, 62, of Elizabethton passed away expectantly on Friday, December 7, 2018 at Sycamore Sholes Hospital.

He was a son of the late William M. and Pauline Matherly Adkins. He is preceded in death by 4 brothers, 3 sisters and a step grandson, Elijah Long. He is also preceded in death by his first wife Elsie Laverne Harden Adkins.

Mr. Adkins was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved the Lord and attended Harmony Freewill Baptist Church in Hampton. He was a friend to all he met and will be greatly missed. He was retired from Landmark Corporation after 30 years of service.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Roxanna “Dale” Hyder Adkins; a daughter, Misty Adkins Wall (Larry) of SC; step son, Johnny Waycaster (Tonya) of Elizabethton; seven step daughters, Amanda Long (Russell) of California; Melanie Carden (David), Heather Adkins (Jamie), Jamie Adkins (David), Nikki Moffitt (Tony), Lindsey Adkins (Jamie), all of Elizabethton. One brother, Roy Adkins (Sue) of Mountain City and one sister, Georgia Carden of Elizabethton. Twenty two step grandchildren; Three sister-in-law’s, Nancy Ritchie (Ronnie) and Vickie Adkins (Rick) of Elizabethton and Tammy McElyea (Frank) of Gray. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bud Malone officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, December 12, 2018 in the Arnett Cemetery (Sugar Hollow).  Music will be provided by Emilee Howard and Jamie Nickles at the Graveside.  Active Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Mike Sellers, Ronald Ritchie, Dwayne Calhoun and John Waycaster.  A special “Thank You” to family and friends who have been very supportive with their prayers and support during this time. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at his residence.   In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family to help with expenses. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday to go to the cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at our web-site www.memorialfelizabethton.com.
