James “Lynn” Johnson

James “Lynn” Johnson, 78, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 10, 2019, from his residence. Lynn was born in Elizabethton to the late James Stuart and Lucy Campbell Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Patrick Johnson.
Before retirement, Lynn was a district manager of Overnite Transportation/UPS and was a member of Valley Forge United Methodist Church. Lynn was a certified lay speaker with the Methodist Church and traveled a lot before his sickness — speaking and filling in. He loved Alabama football and enjoyed playing golf before his illness.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 56 years, Jeanie Blackwell Johnson, of the home; two children, Cathy Mink and husband Randy of Atlanta, Ga., and Stuart Johnson of Concord, N.C.; one granddaughter, Mimi Wirth of New York City; one step-grandson, Harrison Mink of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Lucy Nell Sells of Johnson City; one nephew, James Johnson of Mooresville, N.C.; and one niece, Cindy Ringley of Big Stone Gap, Va.
A service to celebrate the life of James “Lynn” Johnson will be conducted at 5 p.m. Sunday, January 13, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Brent Nidiffer officiating. Music will be provided by Linda Baughman, Judy Little and Trilla Little. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 3 until 5 p.m. Sunday or at the residence at other times. The graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, January 14, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Valley Forge United Methodist Church. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 12:15 p.m. Sunday to go in procession. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Valley Forge United Methodist Church, Highway 19E, Elizabethton, TN 37643 or the American Cancer Society, 861 Weisgarber Road, Knoxville, TN 37909. The family would like to especially thank the doctors and staff of Avalon Hospice and the Regional Cancer Center at Johnson City Medical Center.
