Marie Barnett

Marie Barnett, 92, of Roan Mountain, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 18, 2019, from the Waters at Roan Highlands Nursing Home. Marie was born in Roan Mountain, Tenn., to the late Floyd and Sarah Street Greer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Crawford Barnett; three brothers, Burt Greer, Elijah Greer and Fred Greer; and three sisters, Martha Boone, Frankie Jarrett and Kansas “Kate” Hughes.
Marie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She retired from Cannon Memorial Hospital and was a lifetime member of Burbank Free Will Baptist Church. She loved to cook and spend time with her family. Marie also enjoyed gardening, sewing and crocheting.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Stephen Barnett and wife Gilda of Roan Mountain and Donald Barnett and wife Patsy of Johnson City; two granddaughters, Rachael Barnett of Johnson City and Mendy Barnett of Greeneville; two grandsons, Nyle Barnett and wife Nicole of Roan Mountain and Aaron Barnett and wife Kelli of Johnson City; and four great-grandchildren, Greer Barnett, Ella Rose Barnett, Gage Barnett and Stevie Barnett. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to celebrate and honor the life of Marie Barnett will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 22, at the Burbank Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Blevins officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 until 2 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service, or at any of the family’s residences at any time. The graveside service will follow in the Greer Family Cemetery in Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
