CPO Aaron F. VonCannon

CPO Aaron F. VonCannon, US Navy (Ret.), age 75, of the Central Community went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at his residence. Aaron was born in Elizabethton to the late Denver Frank VonCannon and Beulah Mae Bunton VonCannon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Vincent Frank VonCannon; and a sister, Shirley Jean Smith.

Aaron retired from the United States Navy as Chief Petty Officer and was of the Baptist faith.  He was a former President of the Cattleman’s Association and was a former President of the Neighborhood Watch Program. Aaron loved being outdoors, was very patriotic and enjoyed farming and raising cattle. During his tenure in the Navy, Aaron was awarded the Meritorious Unit Commendation, an Armed Forces Reserve Medal 2nd Award, the Navy “E” Ribbon Sixth Award, the Navy Coast Guard MUC, the S&W MOD 10 .38 Marksman Award, the National Defense Medal 2nd Award, the Navy Achievement Medal 2nd Award and the Good Conduct Medal 6th Award.

Those left to cherish his wonderful memories include his wife of fifty years, Betty Gouge VonCannon, of the home; his daughters, Sandra VonCannon- Legaspi (Romeo), of Ventura, CA and Loretha VonCannon- Carter (David), of Elizabethton; his grandchildren, Brittany Carter, of Elizabethton, Alexander Legaspi, of Ventura, CA, Zachary Legaspi, of Ventura, CA and Katlynn Carter, of Elizabethton; his brother, Charles Dean VonCannon, of Elizabethton; his sister, Alma Ruth VonCannon, of Elizabethton; his nieces, Deanna Kerr, of Johnson City and Tammy Coomer, of Clayton, NC; and his nephew, Thomas VonCannon, also of Clayton, NC.

A service to honor and celebrate the life of Aaron F. VonCannon will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Friday, March 8, 2019 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Pastor Garry Edwards, officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Friday, or at the residence at any time.

The graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 PM on Friday, March 8, 2019 at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers, may make donations to the Carter County Honor Guard, 162 Spiral Vision Road, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
