Tennessee man sought in assault on police officer

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Police in Tennessee are searching for a suspect accused of punching an officer before fleeing.
The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department says in a news release Officer Autumn Manning was treated at a hospital and released after the incident early Sunday.
The statement says Manning saw a man beating another man in a parking lot when she tried to intervene. As she was placing the suspect in handcuffs, he allegedly began punching her in the head and Manning fell.
The suspect fled on foot. The statement identified him as 34-year-old Marcelo Mendoza of Nashville and says arrest warrants have been issued charging him with assault on a police officer, aggravated assault, and resisting and evading arrest.
The man who was beaten was taken to a hospital for treatment.
