Laura Kay Biddix Simerly, 71, of Dennis Cove Road, in Hampton, Tenn., died Saturday, March 16, 2019, at Johnson City Medical Center.
Born on January 22, 1948 in McDowell County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Aaron “Bud” Biddix and Ruby McGuire Biddix. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Aaron ‘Sunny’ Biddix Jr.
Laura Kay was a member of the Altapass Church of God in Spruce Pine, N.C. She loved her family, friends, and especially her grandchildren. She also cared great for her nieces. She loved her dogs, Ruby, Pee Wee, and Bruno.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband of 42 years, Jess Simerly of Hampton, Tenn.; her sons, Scott Shore of Hampton, Tenn., and Chris Simerly of Johnson City, Tenn.; her grandchildren, Alley and Alex Shore and Harper Simerly; her sisters, Mary Ellen Hollifield of Spruce Pine, N.C., and Charlotte Edwards of Spruce Pine, N.C.; her special friend, Jennifer Kelso; and several nieces and nephews.
The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service for Laura Kay Simerly on Thursday, March 21, at 2 p.m. at the Altapass Church of God with the Rev. Cameron Smith and the Rev. Steve Williams officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Wednesday, March 20, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home in Roan Mountain, Tenn. Interment will be in the McKinney Gap Cemetery in Spruce Pine, N.C. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church. The family would like to extend special “Thanks” to the I.C.U. staff of the Johnson City Medical Center; Wings Air Rescue; Dr. Frank Johnson and staff; and Mitchell County E.M.S. personnel, Kirsten Proffitt and Scott Pritchard for the extraordinary care of Laura Kay during her illness.
