Andrew Jackson “Andy” Hood Jr., 88, of Elizabethton, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. He was born May 11, 1930 in East Stone Gap, Va., to the late Andrew Jackson Hood Sr. and Margaret Louise Wright Hood. He had lived in Elizabethton since 1941.
Andy was a 1948 graduate of Elizabethton High School. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Sperry-Raytheon Corporation. He was a 60-plus year member and former Master of Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238, a 50-year member of the Scottish Rite and a member of Jericho Shrine.
Andy had his pilot license and he loved to fly. He loved classic cars and attending the Carter County Car Shows whenever possible. He was a member and deacon of Siam Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Sue Jones.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Ruth Curtis Hood; two sisters, June Taylor and Kay (Ed) Humphries; two brothers, Leon Hood and Gayle (Jobelle) Hood; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Andrew Jackson “Andy” Hood Jr. will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jack Roddy officiating. Music will be provided by Billy Anderson. Interment will follow in the Nave Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Lynn Taylor, Sidney Hood, Scott Hood, Pete Scalf, Nick Oliver, Doug Bailey, Henry Allen and John Rednour. Honorary pallbearers will be John Curtis Jr., Mike Curtis, Bud Curtis, Carroll Curtis, Bill Kyte, his church family and members of the Masonic Bodies. A Masonic Memorial Service will be conducted following the funeral service Saturday. The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service.
