Martha Omega Joines Collins, 92, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, April 20, 2019, at her home. Martha was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late B.A. Sr. and Effie Crawford Joines. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald J. Collins; two grandchildren, Charles and Serena Carol; one sister, Alpha Tester; and four brothers, Norman Joines, Elmo Joines, B.A. Joines Jr. and Haden Joines.
Martha was a loving mother and devoted wife. She retired from North American Rayon Corporation after 48 years of service and was a member of Watauga Valley Freewill Baptist Church. She loved to cook and enjoyed canning. She loved spending time with her family and her church family.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Judy Richardson and her husband, Dr. James Richardson, Elizabethton; three grandchildren, Donnie Richardson and his wife, Brenna, Charice Arnold and her husband, Kenneth, and Chris Richardson and his fiancée, Magen Pebbles; four great-grandchildren, McKenna Richardson, Stephen Richardson, Lucas Richardson and K.J. Arnold; one great-granddaughter, Jordon Hillman; one sister, Beatrice Tester and her husband, Clyde; one brother-in-law, Mack Collins and his wife June; three sisters-in-law, Darlene Collins, Lyndal Lowe and Phyllis Davis; and Tyler Salo, whom she treated like a grandson. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Martha will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Dr. James Richardson and Reverend Bill Greer officiating. The family will receive friends in the chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Keith Williams, Eddie Lewis, Wayne Davis, Mike Lowe, Sherrill Perry, Ronnie Keller, James Arnold and Kevin Collins. Honorary pallbearers include Sherrill Carrier, Terry Tester, Raymond Perry, Richard Dunnigan, Jim Clemons, Jim Thomas, Earl Dykes, Roger Lewis, B.J Colbaugh, Robert Calloway, Eric Davis, Eddie Williams, Rick Williams, Larry Grindstaff, Roger Babb, Roger Shaw, Jason Shaw, Jerry Weaver, Leonard Lewis, Jack Collins and Johnny Wilson. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, to go in procession to the cemetery.
