As school comes to a close in about a month, summer jobs open up at places like community pools and other community centers, but the Elizabethton Boys and Girls Club is joining their ranks as well.

Resource Development and Marketing Director Elizabeth Williams said they will be hosting a job fair for internal positions on Wednesday, May 1.

“The purpose of the job fair is to fill our summer youth development professional positions,” Williams said.

The Boys and Girls Club serves hundreds of children on a daily basis, providing opportunities for growth and academic development throughout the year.

For their summer programs, Williams said they need youth leaders who can make the experience memorable.

“These are the individuals who work directly with our kids on a daily basis,” she said. “They are mentors, develop relationships and run programs to provide a world-class summer experience.”

The organization provides children a variety of ways to get involved in their education and help develop them to be contributing members of their community in the future.

She said in many cases, the mentor becomes the contributing factor to their success.

“One day when ‘Sally’ looks back on her time with the Club, she is not going to talk about an art project she did,” Williams said. “She is going to talk about her staff member, ‘Joe,’ who always made her feel important and who taught her to dream big. We want to hire the very best ‘Joes’ out there so that we can make the greatest impact on the lives of those we serve.”

In terms of qualifications, she said those interested only need a high school diploma in order to apply as well as a background and drug test, but she said they are looking for more than that on a personal level.

“We are looking for passionate, driven individuals who want to change the lives of kids,” Williams said.

The job fair itself will take place Wednesday, May 1, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club, located at 104 Hudson Drive, Elizabethton.
