I support Carter County becoming a Second Amendment or gun sanctuary county. However as a Christian I have much greater support and desire for Elizabethton City to declare itself a Sanctuary City for the Unborn and Carter County declare itself a Sanctuary County for the unborn. God would bless the city and county for this Godly decision. Psalm 94:16: “Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? or who will stand for me against the workers of iniquity?” Proverbs 24:11: “Deliver them that are drawn unto death and those that are ready to be slain.” The Bible warns that God will give His most severe punishment to those who abuse the weak and helpless. Deuteronomy 30:19 says it best, “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessings and cursing: therefore choose life…!”

According to www.christianheadlines.com and www.defendproclaimthefaith.org the Waskom, Texas, City Council just unanimously voted to outlaw abortion, creating what it called a “sanctuary city for the unborn.” The Waskom City Council adopted a resolution and ordinance to make abortion in the city a criminal offense. Council members voted never to allow an abortion facility to open its doors in its jurisdiction. Supporters of the ordinance call it preventative. Waskom Councilwoman McCay said, “We each need to stand up for our values. We need to speak up for the repressed or those that are never given the chance to have a voice. At least two other American cities — Riverton, Utah and Roswell, N.M. — voted this year to become “sanctuary cities” for the unborn babies.

Dr. McTernan said the Bible speaks out about the government encouraging evil by making it an ordinance, as America has done by legalizing abortion and approving same-sex marriage. America has become friendly with evil and it has become ingrained in both customs and laws which makes it a way of life. As James 4 says, Friendship with this world makes a person an enemy of God. Leviticus 18 defines great evil (iniquity) as adultery, child sacrifice (abortion) and homosexuality. McTernan said when a society makes iniquity an ordinance, this is extremely serious with God. This evil society becomes a target for judgment. New York is the most pro-abortion state. McTernan said in New York they got God’s judgment because the Courts of New York approved same-sex marriage and the governor and all leaders said the state should celebrate. Then six days later they got Hurricane Sandy, the worst disaster in New York history. After the disaster many went from celebration to dumpster diving for food in New York. The most evil city in the south is New Orleans. The city leaders approved Southern Decadence Gay celebration every August. In August 2005 during Southern Decadence Gay celebrations Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. Exactly seven years later in August 2012, again during Southern Decadence Gay celebrations, Hurricane Isaac hit New Orleans. This summer New Orleans becomes a trash dump with only dead fish and dead marine life around its coast.

We pray that Elizabethton never does evil and celebrates evil like New York and New Orleans. If Carter County has revival and Elizabethton leaders declare Elizabethton a Sanctuary City for the Unborn then Elizabethton could become a shining city on a hill!
