A green day… Five teams gather at Elizabethton Golf Course to tee off 2019 prep season

After a brief shower passed through, the 2019 golf season officially got underway as five teams that included local schools Hampton, Unaka, and Elizabethton along with Unicoi County and South Greene gathered at the Elizabethton Golf Course to see who would work their way to the top of the leaderboard at the conclusion of the match.
In the boy’s team competition, when all the scores were tallied host school Elizabethton just barely squeaked by South Greene as the Cyclones shot a team 160 with the Rebels just one stroke off at 161.
Hampton finished in third with a 176 while Unicoi Co. carded out with a 243. Unaka’s score didn’t count in team standings as the top four scores are figured into the overall total and the Rangers only fielded two players on the day.
Hunter Hartman from South Greene took medalist honors firing a 35 for nine holes of competition while teammate Isaac Hoese and Elizabethton’s Carson Peters finished with 37s on the day.
The Cyclone tandem of Cooper Tipton and Caleb Tipton finished with identical rounds of 40.
On the girl’s side, Coach Lucas Andrews got off to a better start on the golf course than the basketball court as Elizabethton (1-0) took the four-team competition with a 98 led by Hannah Williams with a 46 and Hannah McDaniel’s 52 as the top two finishers figure in the scoring.
The Lady Rebels of South Greene finished second with a 101 while Unaka finished third with a 113 and Hampton closed out the match with a 117.
