This year marks the 20th year that Wright State University has been working to improve the Appalachian Trail in Northeast Tennessee. The focus this year was on preparing the Appalachian Trail for major rehab just north of Hump Mountain in the Roan Mountain High County. The day began with a robust hike to Hump Mountain with an extreme amount of gear for work. As always with Wright State students, the new trail vision was nearly accomplished before lunch time. There was major trail construction between Doll Flats and Hump Mountain. “As a result of the work, there will be additional attention to trail preservation in this region as well as Use Management possibilities north of Hump Mountain,” said Jim Chambers of the Southern Appalachian Work Center. At the end of the work day there was a celebration dinner at the Elizabethton center.
