The volleyball season is still in its adolescent stages but if Tuesday night’s match between Elizabethton and Sullivan Central is any indication of how the Three Rivers Conference volleyball season is going to play out, fans had better bring an extra seat belt to keep them from coming too far out of their seats.
In a five-set thriller, the Lady Cyclones defeated the visiting Lady Cougars 3-2. Central recently had defeated the always-tough Lady Rebels of Sullivan South.
Central took the opening set before the Lady Cyclones settled in and evened the score at 1-set apiece. From that point, each and every point was challenged and the netplay was incredible on both sides with powerful returns being greeted with big blocks by each team.
Elizabethton managed to take a 2-1 set advantage and quickly jumped out to a 9-2 lead in set four before the Lady Cougars made a run to eventually work to even the match at 2 sets apiece forcing the fifth and final set to 15 points.
In a back and forth set, the Lady Cyclones finally managed to put together two points to finally put the match on ice winning the decisive set 17-15.
The game was a total team effort on behalf of the Lady Cyclones as each player had something to contribute to the big conference win.
